Entrapment
In this photograph I see a man dressed and ready for the day or for work. However, instead of finishing with a tie he has a noose around his neck. This gave me the idea that some people work to death or just hate their jobs. From this I want to focus on the fact that things aren't always as they seem and if you look at something close enough or from someone else's point of view you can find something very unexpected.
Ideas
Inspired by the photograph that replaces a tie with a noose, i wanted to look at what other objects i could use to replace 'ordinary' things. Handcuffs on two people holding hands defeats the purpose of them feeling safe and secure with each other.
I also wanted to explore how i could display the objects. Instead of replacing it altogether i was interested with the idea of revealing it or showing only parts of it.
After desaturationg the photographs and enhancing the contrast in photoshop, i printed them out and experimented with ripping/tearing them and placing them on top each other to reveal what was 'hidden' underneath.
I did a small shoot taking photographs of hands with and with out handcuffs. After photoshopping in to black and white, i printed the images out, ripped them and layered them leaving a rough look. I thought this look could portray the feelings of fear and danger.
Normen Gadiel
Norman Gadiel is one of many photographers who has created a scene to complete a picture. In this case he uses vinyl covers. In this series I am particularly interested in the way part of the model is hidden behind another image.
Inspired by Normen Gadiels photogrpahs i, again, printed these but cut out part of the photograph i wanted on top and aligned it with the image without the props.
Using photoshop i overlayed these images as a last technique and experiment for this unit. I think these shoots and experiments were successful a it displayed my first intentions of showing something that either is not or wouldn't usually or normally be there.
