Mechanisms.
After deciding to base my unit on mechanisms I wanted to explore how the human body functions like machine and portray the complexity in a person.
Billy Nunez
Billy Nunez is an illustrator who, in these series displayed the human as robots. He used the face and body and sectioned them revealing mechanisms on the inside.

Idea
As part of my ideas and brainstorms I drew a face inspired by the work of Billy Nunez. I sectioned parts of the face and drew them away from the initial face shading in the gaps to show shadow and to keep the face looking as if it was flat. I want to experiment a shoot like this on photoshop.
'Future Face' Inspired photoshoot.
Inspired by Billy Nunez, I photoshopped portrait photographs by cutting and moving parts of the face using the polylasso tool. I made sure to paint the layer behind the face black to display the shadow. I directed the model to look up in some of the photographs so so i could edit parts of the face going up and make it look as if the model was looking up
Mirella Santana - Human Machine.
Mirella Santana is another artist who worked with humans being machines. I particularly liked Santanas work because they displayed the detail of the human body of the model where you could almost see the ribs through the skin, however also shows the machinery inside of the them where the ribs should have been. They also added the detail pf the joints. The lines and the cuts of this human machine shows us how the model would have functioned and moved.
Human Doll Inspired Photoshoot.
'Madeyewlook' (youtube tutorial) inspired Photoshop editing
Being inspired by the work of the doll tutorial I wanted to make my model look as if they were a doll. Instead of using make up, I edited in photoshop, mainly using the dodge and burn tool to create tone. I wanted to disconnect the joints and by creating layers and cutting and shading i tried to make the limbs look separate from the rest of the model as if she were a doll.
Because I dressed the model in black for my shoot, in photoshop I edited the background of the images to match so the body was the focus. I also did this because I wanted my model to look incomplete like an old, broken doll. Using the lasso tool I was able to select and cut parts of the body. I did this to part to where i thought the body could come apart. I chose part of the shoulder, the chest and the neck. Using the burn tool I wanted to create shadow to make where I discarded the joints more believable. I also used the dodge tool to lighten certain areas where I thought could shine on the body as if it were made of plastic.
Benedict Campell.
Benedict Campbell is a photographer and digital artist who created images that turned humans into cyborgs. I wanted to explore and experiment with Campells work because i thought it went well with the idea of people and robots and humans being machines. In my first Campell inspired shoot I painted the face of my model to experiment the colour and texture of cyborgs. I wanted to create a smooth cleartone to create a ceramic like cyborg look.
Benedict Campbell - Cyborg Inspired Photoshoot.
Because i only painted the face, when i was photoshopping these images i but it and moved it as if the persons was coming apart or opening up. I thought this idea could link to the first artist i had looked at. In these images I added a blue tint to display the cold tones that Campbell did in his work. I intended to turn my model into a machine or a robot and after taking photographs of my tap at home, along with other metal materials i had come across, I added then to my models neck to look like metal bars in her body.
I also wanted to experiment creating cyborgs and robots without make up. With the use of Photoshop I adjusted the colour and brightness of the face and dodged my model to create a pale, cold tone with hints of blue to generate a futuristic look. I also used the spot healing brush to remove the eyebrows in some of the photographs. I thought this would help display the idea of humans being robots more. With inspiration from Billy Nunez I cut out parts of my models face to reveal that they have been functioning from something other than a human. I had taken photographs of metal materials I had found and wanted to use these as part of the body.
Final Photoshoot
In this shoot for my final outcome I wanted to get different compositions while keeping it portrait. I also changed the lighting in this as I thought the warmer light would let me dodge the skin of my model better.

For a final outcome i wanted to combine some of the techniques i had experimented with into one series. From dolls i had moved on the cyborgs and their funcstions. Following on mostly from one of my last photoshoots and edits which was inspired mainly by the work of Benedict Campbell I wanted to create a cold, robotic look. I did this by adding blue/grey tones in my images. I kept inspiration from all the artist i had looked at and had sections of the models face reveal what was underneath.
In my photographs i wanted to keep to a small colour palett which held little contrast. I thought doing this would keep a colder, futuristic tone throughout the pictures. Using photoshop i used a lot of the dodge tool to make my model look quite pale and lifeless, this also gave her a silvery tone to her face and hair.
